About Me

Kia Felder Williams is a doctoral student in the ASPIRE program in the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University. Her major research interests center around the disproportionality of Black/African Americans in special education and include family perception of dis/ability diagnoses and the impact of those perceptions on care and treatment.

Mrs. Felder Williams views the intersectionality of race, culture, and education through a critical lens and leans towards a dis/ability critical race framework to define, interpret and explore research questions. She currently works as a Special Education Chairperson at Prince George’s County Public Schools overseeing the IEPs of students with high incidence disabilities including Autism.

Kia earned her Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Post Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership from George Washington University, and her Bachelor of Science in Management and Marketing at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
